Collaboration between the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Timiryazev State Museum of Biology

On March 10, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Timiryazev State Biological Museum. The partnership between the researchers and conservators of the two museums established in recent years was formalized. During this time, the museums have prepared scientific and educational projects on the study and restoration of the "Triumph of Hope" tapestry and the pietre dure tabletop.

These projects not only describe the creation, life and conservation of the museum objects but also reveal the allegorical and symbolic meaning of the plants and fruits depicted on them. For centuries, collectors and knowledgeable art lovers have regarded reading the subjects works and the semantic significance of their various details as an intellectual amusement, a kind of scholarly whimsy.

In the coming months, there are plans to open an updated page on the website devoted to the 16th-17th-century Western European tapestries from the collection of the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The joint work of specialists from both museums will give them an opportunity to understand better the artistic and imaginative content of the outstanding objects of applied art. The results of the comprehensive research helped to clarify the state of preservation of the tapestries and determine the best methods for their conservation.
