1. Pan →
The story on the amphora reads bottom-up: the way a tree grows, or a temple is built. The figure of Pan, a young god goat, is the beginning. He is completely humanized, with barely perceptible horns; in Southern Italy, he became assimilated with Dionysus, a god of death and resurrection dying and resurrecting god. Pan is standing to the side, leaning on a forked tree trunk and holding a pipe in his hand – syringa.
